About Steamboat Springs History

Originally a small cattle ranching settlement built around the Yampa River, the town was incorporated at the turn of the century and the destination gained in popularity with the expansion of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. In the 1960’s, the first ski resort was built, establishing Steamboat Springs as a highly desirable ski destination and resort. Today, the town of Steamboat Springs is a fun summer and winter recreation spot with an abundance of activities to experience.
